My 3 year old and I have started working on the Reading Eggs program. We are currently learning to recognize the letter “m.” Unfortunately, Simon may be a little young for the program, because he does not yet know how to control a mouse to click on the correct answers himself. Therefore, he sits on my lap and directs me where to click. (EDIT: I totally just realized that Reading Eggs can be used on the iPad! This way Simon will be able to touch the answers rather than click on them with the mouse – we are totally going to try this out next time!) Sometimes he likes to be silly and chooses the wrong answer on purpose. There are a few different rounds of activities for each letter and on some of them he always gets the answer right. I think he actually can recognize the letter “m” and we will soon be ready to move on to the next lesson.
This is the map you start out on. As you can see, we are on lesson 1.
Inside lesson 1 there are a few games and this is game 1. I like that we can go back to it after finishing it, because this one is Simon’s favorite and the one he can always get right! You choose which cupcake has the letter “m” on it.
This game helps you identify which word has “m” in it. Hover over the image and the name will be spoken – this is moss and rat, not rock and mouse like you might think!
As you play, you unlock bonus screens. This one is “my music” and each option is a different song sung by funny creatures.
If you click on the schoolhouse (marked playroom on the main map), you can access various activities by clicking on the different areas in the room such as books, puzzles, games, art, and more.
This is what you see when you click on the letter poster – mini books for each letter.
This is the bookshelf. The books are songs that you can watch and are very cute.
So far, Simon’s attention for the learning games doesn’t last very long. I like that there are a variety of activities to share with him that all include learning options. I am hoping that with more time and as we progress through the lessons, Simon will gain the skills needed to start to read. You can now get a FREE 5 Week trial to Reading Eggs through this link.
